This was something. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it since I don’t like reading YA anymore, although this is closer to NA since the characters are seniors (around 17-18 y.o.). In my head I know how I want to review this but I don’t know if I’ll be able to give it justice.

To start things off, this book is so draining, especially someone who rarely (almost never) enjoys a romance in one POV first-person POV. Having 17 uninterrupted chapters from Sorrell’s POV felt like I was going insane. It’s like being stuck in someone else’s mind, bombarded with their every thought. I suffered through the majority of the first part — those 17 chapters was excessive and torture reading from just one perspective. You ask the same questions as Sorrell and for the time being, those are left unanswered.

Pacing is confusing. The “romance” isn’t believable, although I guess it’s mostly lust.

I will never consciously read this trope, and I definitely feel betrayed because I didn’t know that coming in so I didn’t have the chance to choose whether I want to read it or not. But hitting the 65% mark, I now understand why it’s better not knowing. And around this time, the romance finally made sense.

There were definitely deep moments that made me tear up. There was something hauntingly beautiful about the patience, the sacrifices and the friendships throughout this book that it still makes me happy that I’ve read it.

I’ve never read anything like this so to me, it’s very unique, and every sorrow and desperation Theo felt seemed real to me. At some point, I was not just crying with him but for him, for all that has happened. Both Sorrell and Theo deserve all the happiness and love in the world.

Finishing this book made me understand all the good sentiments and praises thrown towards this book. It’s not a perfect 5-star read but it’s good enough to have earned a rent-free spot in my mind.

interesting turn of events

I did not read or know anything about this book prior to reading it. My initial thoughts on this book was that the main female character is mentally disturbed.I don’t understand what kind of foster home or assassin training she was in. Nor do I understand her thought process, her speaking to herself, out loud, all the time. Or what kind of weird assassin mission that she was sent on.
Although the writing is good, I did not initially like the book and had to force myself to finish it.
Glad that I hung in there because all of the missing pieces were eventually revealed and my initial concerns addressed. This book is very different from anything that I have read, and I appreciate that aspect. Overall I would recommend this book to read.
Funny enough what resonate the most for me in this book was the letter from Sorrel’s mother at the very end of the book. That is what led me to rate the book as a 4/5 rather than 3/5

felt really smart for guessing the plot twist, but it's definitely the kind of book to go into blindly (check tw's)! oh to be loved by theo :,)

Requiem was a surprisingly interesting read for me. My first by Callie Hart and I really enjoyed reading it. Sadly I had some suspicious thoughts about the storyline early on which were confirmed later. This kind of damped the reading experience a little but not by much as I didn't know how Callie Hart would spin it.
I got quite attached to the characters Theo and Sorell and it was fun rooting for them.
Here and there I found some plot holes (at least to me they were) and some things that did not add up. Otherwise this would have been a solid 4 star read for me.

I am emotionally spent. I am almost at a loss for words over the twists of this beautiful book. Requiem was nothing like I expected and I couldn't put it down once I began reading. It is absolutely fantastic!

This may seem like a weird statement with a dark, enemies-to lovers book, but Sorrell and Theo are couple goals!!

Requiem is a twisted up story that I never saw coming. I'm not even sure how to describe my feelings or even what to say without giving anything away, except if you enjoy new adult, angsty books with strong heros and heroines this book is a must read.

I hate to cut this review short for such a big book, but seriously, I'm still in book hangover mode today. It's unlike anything I've read and I know it's a book that will stay with me for a long time.
