DNF 29%. I think Carolyn Hart is just not my cup of tea.

Everett (sp? I listened to the audiobook), a small and petty advertising exec (at least by Broward Rock standards) fell out of his kayak on a cold December night and drowned accidentally. So how does his death connect to a recent murder?
Of course, Annie gets pulled in. The murdered woman, after all, was taking over Annie's volunteer hours.
The narrator is absolutely wonderful.

I would give this 3.5 stars if I could. I usually stop reading series long before #22, can't believe I still read 'em. Part of the fun is finding new mystery authors that are mentioned throughout the book. Thanks to Carolyn Hart I was reading Charlene Harris a number of years prior to the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, but I digress. This book takes places off season in Broward's Rock, SC. Annie gets involved with finding out the murderer of a fellow volunteer, Gretchen, at the charity shop. Annie feels guilty because she should have been working that shift, but needed to find a sub due to an author visit @ Death on Demand. When the mayor wants to railroad the investigation and focus on the wrong person, Annie, Max and Henny spring into action to find the killer.

This was basically the same book as the other 21 in the series. There needs to be some sort of a series arc - the main characters' lives haven't changed or grown from book to book.

Another fun Death on Demand mystery. I love reading about how the main characters are evolving, the ability to read about more of the people who inhabit the island, and especially how the author describes the setting.

These are enjoyable, easy to read, escapist stories. However, just like the other books, the guilty party is easy to figure out. The author gives very little information about the one suspect that actually committed the crime.

I recommend this series, for anyone looking for a simple and fun tor read mystery.

So nice to spend time with Annie and Max. One of my favorite mystery series.

As a long time reader of this series, Death Comes Silently was like a visit with old friends. Carolyn Hard has managed to write another strong book in a rather long series - not something a lot of authors can do without the books starting to feel stale and repetitious. I thought the plot was fresh and the red herrings excellent. Each of the main characters were true to their histories and as likeable as they've ever been (or not, as the case may be). I do find a couple of recurring characters just too stupid and overblown to be even remotely believable, but these characters don't get much page time, thank goodness. An excellent read for those that like their cozies with a bit more depth and maturity.
