What a perfect book to talk to children about the confusion and heartbreak of watching a relative suffer from Alzheimer's.

I only log picture books in my yearly goal if I really REALLY liked them and this one definitely makes my list. This story is so close to home for me and the balloon metaphor is so simple and powerful. This is a book I want to give my dad, who lost his father to Alzheimer's. This is one of those books that some kids will really need and appreciate and I love it so much ;_;

Absolutely the sweetest story about memory loss that I have ever read. Positive and uplifting though it may make you cry!

*Sobs* I loved the clean layout of the artwork and the illustrations with pops of color from the balloons worked beautifully as a companion to a heartbreaking story about a boy and his grandpa and how grandpa is losing his memories. I think this a great way to introduce such a sensitive topic to young children, who may have loved ones experiencing this. I loved how it ended. So sweet.

A poignant, metaphorical tale in which a balloons represent memories, and a child has to learn to be the keeper of those balloons as his beloved grandfather begins to lose his to old age and failing memory.

A sad but hopeful story about a young boy dealing with his grandfathers dementia, told through a beautiful analogy.
