Overall, this was a good light read. As a paranormal romance, it was heavier on the paranormal, and lighter on the romance with the focus more on the plot to avenge Avery's death and depose the leader of the Redcap Vampire organization. Close to a third of the book was from Big Bad's perspective as he chased around the country trying to quell revolts - it gave a bit of insight into how clever Isa was in her grand plan, but it took away from the time spent with the two MCs and from the time the two MCs were actually together on the page.

From a romance perspective it was pretty light - the two characters seemed attracted to one another, but there was a slight hurdle in that one is a vampire hunter who is avenging her wife's death, the other is a vampire who was there at the wife's death - but finally had enough and turned against her own kind. Surprisingly, the overcame that quickly, had some longing looks and then went off to kick ass. Most of the romance was "off book".

I would have liked to see more of each of them. Jenni had a ten year history of vampire hunting that was never really discussed and I was kind of interested in how Isa managed to sow the seeds of discontent within the Redcap organization. There were larger backstories hinted at, but never really delved into.
