Meh. It was alright but the relationship is dull and it's kinda forced

This is my first book by Roxanne St Claire, and likely to be my last. The story was ok, the plot had an interesting twist, but the characters lacked depth and the writing was so-so.

Jazz steps into her sister's journalistic life while Jessica is on assignment and in the meantime Alex is hired to be Jessica's bodyguard as she has been getting threatening letters. Once he finds out that Jazz is Jessica's twin sister he wonders what happened to Jessica; Jazz thinking her sister is on assignment wonders if maybe Alex is right and something is wrong. As they try to find Jessica they try and fight the chemistry that pushes them together.

I think this novel could have had more suspense and more chemistry between Jazz and Alex but it has potential for the series. I will give another novel a shot.

Kill Me Twice

Synopsis
Jasmine "Jazz" Adams has always been in awe of her glamorous twin sister, so when Jessica asks her to take her place for a few days, Jazz doesn't hesitate. Only things don't go as planned when it turns out that Jazz must contend not only with her sister's stalker and her gorgeous bodyguard, Alex Romero, but also with Jessica's unexplained disappearance.

Review
A good mix of romance and suspense.

The story is good with some exciting twists and turns, and well written action scenes. Some of the plot points are predictable and cliched but the ending is satisfying and the final twist caught me by surprise.

Alex is tall, dark and sexy with a notorious past and a highly developed protective instinct. Jazz is intelligent and skilled as a private investigator but there are one or two moments where she makes some questionable choices and misses some obvious clues, which does not mesh well with her characterization. While Alex and Jazz have steamy chemistry, their relationship builds slowly throughout the book and never distracts from the suspense.

Overall, this is strong start to an promising series and I look forward to continuing.

A plot twist right at the end redeemed the book somewhat, but I still felt the plot line was a tired one. The writing was a little overly dramatic, as well, and there were two or three big information dumps including two "bad-guy soliloquies" that were unfortunate. Lastly, I didn't like Lucy, who seems likely to be a major player in future books. I really don't want to read about another "cool, crisp, put-together, in control" female lead who resembles a cold fish. I'll have to see if she gets her own story, or if she simply remains Bullet Catchers' top-dog...or top-b*tch, as it were.

MMC is a specialised operative hired to protect a news anchor...except she's missing and her twin sister is in her place. Engaging suspense, with some surprising twists. He's perceptive and sexy, while she's really headstrong. Though for someone smart, she was in denial for too long re: her twin's peril.

Chemistry's good, and the war they waged against their steamy attraction is rife with sexual tension. Their romance is slow-building though there're plenty of sexy undercurrents! It was also nice to see him falling *hard*, and her realising she's more than what she saw herself to be, because of him. Fitting HEA, too!

Alex Romero is a security specialist/bodyguard with Bullet Catchers, a private security firm headed by Lucy Sharpe, an ex-CIA agent. He's been assigned to guard a Miami news anchor, Jessica Adams, who has received threatening emails from a stalker. Her new boss has ordered the security, however, Jessica is working secretly on an investigative piece and asked her identical twin, Jasmine "Jazz" Adams, to pretend to be her while she continues her covert investigation.

The fun starts when Jazz shows up and Alex is waiting for her in Jessica's apartment. Once he learns of the pretense, they continue the ruse and it soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. Jessica is out of communication and they are unsure if that's deliberate or if she's in trouble. It's unclear who can be trusted and exactly what Jessica may be investigating. Meanwhile, Jazz and Alex are struggling to fight their attraction, he because it's unprofessional and his job would be at risk and she because he seems to want to take care of her when she can take care of herself.

The story moves rapidly and you have to digest character details quickly to keep up with all the transitions. It works well for this mystery and you vacillate between believing Jessica is in danger or not, whether you can trust this or that person or not and who exactly are the bad guys. The ending is exciting with an unexpected twist i never saw coming. What doesn't work as well is the romance between Alex and Jazz. His emotional connection is pretty clear but Jazz is a bit murkier as much attention was devoted to their physical connection. It was difficult for me to invest in their romance though I rooted for them by the end of the story.

I like the premise of this series. It's clear that Lucy is an enigma and I look forward to learning more of her backstory and continuing on to the next book.

The Amazon blurb: Alex Romero is the hottest "Bullet Catcher" in the business. Tall, dark, and deadly if necessary, this high-priced bodyguard's got the muscle and the moves -- especially when it comes to the ladies. Alex can keep his beautiful clients out of danger, but sometimes they can't keep their hands off of him. Now Alex has one last chance to prove he belongs among the elite force known as The Bullet Catchers, but his assignment is stacked...against him.
Private investigator Jasmine Adams is fiercely independent and fearless under pressure -- she doesn't need some hunk-for-hire's help to catch the creep stalking her twin sister. But when Jazz uncovers bigger forces targeting her sister for death, she's glad to have Alex's brain and brawn handy. From the steamy streets of Miami to the sultry beaches of Key West, Alex and Jazz try to fight temptation as they race to keep a madman from fulfilling his promise to kill not just once, but twice. And some temptations are too powerful to resist....

A solid 3.5 stars. Not too heavy on the macho, an intelligent, capable heroine and a convoluted but reasonably believable plot.

First book by this author that I've read. It was good, but could have been better. I did enjoy it though and will move onto the next as I'm intrigued. :)

As the beginning book of the Bullet Catchers series, this book does a good job of introducing characters to be featured throughout the series and also explains the Bullet Catchers organization. Although the main characters were likeable, they didn't show much depth of emotion. The mystery was interesting, but didn't inspire much of a feeling of suspense. Overall, a decent story, but without much to make it special.
