My favourite book series when I was younger. I didn't really need to re-read as I could still probably quote the books, I read them so many times.
I remember really wanting a Shetland pony after reading this one.

I don't know if I'd normally rate this a full five stars except that my daughters absolutely adored listening to this for their read aloud and would beg me to read it. We love Sophie as a character!

I loved these books when I was little, I felt just like Sophie! I loved reading books where the girls were actually like me and not little "princesses" all the time - thankfully I was great at finding those kind of books!

finding age-appropriate reads for my budding reader has been a bit of a challenge - too much suspense, too much kid attitude or too much girly-brat behavior. this was a lovely read for my daughter and i. pacing was deliberate and filled with the ordinary things that fill a young girl's day without all the sass. we'll be checking out the rest of the sophie series to see how this precocious little girl evolves.

I read this as a child myself, I read it to my eldest when she was the titular Sophie's age, and I just read it again to my youngest. It's still charming - I really like Sophie and it's a fun one to read.

Decided to give this series a reread as they're cheap on Audible at the moment. Only realising now how much of my personality must have been shaped by listening to this as a child...
