I liked Dark Heart —the very last story— very much, the last pages were strongly moving.

After reading Volume 1 and attempting to provide a rating/review for that volume, I have come to the conclusion that the story is best considered in its entirety.
When the 5 volumes are read back-to-back, it is an immersing journey into the dark world inhabited by Stefano and Silvio. There is incredible emotional depth to the characters and the story is intriguing. Very compelling reading.

Extremely seductive!

Voinov's main characters are deep and intriguing, and you cannot see what's coming next.

Favorite Quotes:
"It’s just really awkward. I can’t lose her. But I can’t lose you, either." Not after I finally found you. After all that strife and battle, I think I deserve both. I think. I do.

"It would be easier for you to just tell me to get lost."

"I’m not interested in
easy."

Silvio frowned, but then nodded.

“But we don’t have condoms . . .” And no way in hell was he leaving the bed to get some.

Silvio groaned. “For even part-gay, your logistics are awful.”

“I got you here to feed you lasagna, asshole, not my wife.”

(78%, Stefano & Silvio)

Franco had been totally right. Silvio needed somebody who anchored him, who he could belong to, and Stefano was ready to be that man now. He’d grown from obsession and fear to love and understanding. Accepting Silvio exactly as he was, how he acted and how he responded.

“I want you to belong to us. Not like you belonged to Falchi. Better. You’ll get a much better deal this time. We won’t send you away.”

“Ever?” Silvio asked, and there was so much hope in that word that Silvio’s voice cracked.

“Never again,” Stefano promised. “I’m sorry I did, but I won’t do that again.”

When in doubt, read Voinov.
I'd been eyeing these books for a long time, saving them for the moment when the hunger for bdsm would hit me. I read some reviews beforehand and I was aware I was going to be acquainted with some new ways of using a gun. I approached warily, but I knew they would be good.
They were. I fell in love with Silvio. I should have expected it - I have this crazy fixation on underdogs, after all. And it persisted, even though (...because?) he continued to act like a slut - although conversely, Dark Lady was one of the stories I liked best. The character development was done masterfully here. I loved that Silvio retained every bit of his intensity throughout the series, even as more details were filled in and the puzzle pieces began to form a whole.
I couldn't bring myself to like Stefano, though. I guess I tolerated him; he had his moments, but most of the time he was just too soft. I understand why he didn't stay and fight for the family (especially with Sebastiano cornering him - and for that matter, how sick was Sebastiano's reaction when he discovered the truth about Silvio? I hated that fucker). I would have killed those homophobic bastards myself. But he could have handled it better. Just upping and leaving was a shit thing to do. I don't know. Maybe it's just that he seemed too ordinary compared to Silvio.
I enjoyed these immensely. The writing, as usual, was incredible - Voinov has a way with words that few others possess. The sex was scorching, even the threesome, which I didn't expect, and intersected the story at just the right moments. Overall, it was a great read.

Yeap. I did it. I finished the Dark Soul series.
Phew. Give me a second please. I'm exhausted.

So. Menage. Congrats. This series offically broke the record of containing everything that I don't like in a story. And I still read it. Unbelievable. I still skipped the
Spoiler threesome
part though. So not for me.

Silvio won my heart. Congrats you fucker, here, take it. Damn your sexiness.

The whole puppy thing almost gave me a heart attack.

Wow. I feel like a part of me darkened after this series. Weird, I know, believe me I know.

What a finish to the series! It's gut-wrenching, heartbreaking with mysteries and plot-twists, especially the decision that Stefano had to make was completely unexpected but reasonable (in his eyes).
Sure it was dark and tense throughout the whole series but this volume explained a lot of the character motivations and personalities.

Whether Silvio ended up killing Stefano wasn't as important to me as the confession at the end of the book. Regardless of the outcome, we know that Stefano and Silvio did their best to protect the ones they love.
