Recently reread the first book and decided to give the second one a try since it was available. I found the story interesting but I felt like more things could have been done, and that the pacing was slow. Naturally, I need to know what happens next.

"The tiger has fled, the mountain lion is dead, the wolf has found his head..."

The much awaited sequel to The Princess Will Save You sees Amarande and Luca having to part ways - Amarande to Ardenia where she must try to reclaim her throne and title and Luca to the Torrent to spark a rebellion that will help him fulfil his destiny. But they are stuck in the middle of power hungry players who wish to claim the entire Kingdom of Sand and Sky for themselves. Amarande finds help in the most unlikely of places but with enemies hidden in the shadows, betrayal is guaranteed and victory seems far away. Can the power of true love save the day?

"The past week has taught me that no one will listen to me anyway because I am not a man. It’s enough to drive a woman mad..."

I said it after finishing The Princess Will Save You and I'm saying it again - this is hands down one of the best YA Fantasy series I've read in a while! This book seriously keeps you on your toes and just when you think you know what's happening something else gets thrown in to the mix. I got very strong Game of Thrones vibes and absolutely loved it! One of my favourite parts of this book was Taillefer and his character ARC. His sarcasm knows no limits and I laughed out loud a few times at his actions and reactions. After how it ended, I will be patiently counting down the months until the third installment is released, The King Will Kill You. Can we also take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover too.
*
"Even the best of us are willing to lie for those we love..."
*
Thank you, to NetGalley and Macmillan Tor Teen for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed it, though not as much as I liked the first. It feels like the story almost could’ve been a duology or it was just a bit of a sophomore slump. Not bad, just not spectacular.

Wow! Wow did I love this book! Another sequel that I think is better than the first book. I really enjoyed the first book, and with that cliffhanger at the end it really made me anticipate the sequel, and the sequel did NOT disappoint!

One of the things I absolutely love about these books is how seamlessly Sarah Henning writes the POVs and change of scenes. I never got confused, I always knew where I was in location of the world and whose POV we were reading. You get to see the view from every angle across the different kingdoms. It’s so well done! And I’m not one for political intrigue in books, but the way it’s written in these books helps me understand it and makes me enjoy it. Makes me wonder what will they do next, what action will they take now that their original plan has been thwarted? What lengths will these spoiled queens go to to get what they want?

The twists and turns in this book were great! Kept me on my toes wondering what will happen next! You get to learn more about Amarande and about her mother’s past and others since there are a few chapters that are flashbacks that helped explain actions some took in the present time. I really appreciated those chapters, plus you really get to learn about some of these characters really well and why they are the way they are.

I don’t want to say much since this is a sequel and I don’t want to spoil anything. The character building is even better than the first one since we learn even more about some of our favorite characters we met in the first one. There’s not much romantic action that occurs, but you can definitely feel it between Luca and Amarande and you’re just rooting for them the whole way!

The last thing I will say is TAILLEFER IS EVERYTHING TO ME. He is the star of this book! I know I should despise him, but I can’t! After reading this book I fell in love so hard with this morally grey boy and I am not sorry about it

Well, I finished it. But it wasn't easy.

Am I mean if I say this book was....boring? I feel like there were many plot holes and missed opportunities to make this story come to life. Am I glad I read it overall? Sure. It was a struggle to have this not end in a dnf. But will I read a book three if one comes out? Probably not :(

Still love Henning as an author, just not this particular duo.
