What a beautiful story. A soft, slow romance between a vampire and his assistant, who both appear to be written as neurodiverse. I love that it was set a little bit earlier in time than most historical romances — it’s nice to get away from the Regency and Victorian eras.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the love triangle situation, although it was mostly conducted via letter and didn't last very long. And I wish there was another chapter or two at the end so we could see the two characters together more. Don’t go into this looking for a plot; it’s basically a book of conversations, and it's all the better for it. The pining and yearning and longing glances are top notch. The writing is lovely, very lush and immersive. This is one of those books where you find yourself escaping into the pages.
Graphic: Blood and Death
Moderate: Ableism, Stalking, Sexual content, and Injury/Injury detail
