It was fine but Nate was *too* perfect and everyone loved him, and it got old quite quickly.

Mary Calmes is one of my favorite authors for a reason and this book is one of those.

I love reading the contrast between her characters and how they work together. The combination of the sunshine character, Nate, and the dark dominating one, Dreo, the combustion of their chemistry and their sizzling hot sex scenes that do not detract from the other relationships, family and friends, portrayed, is what makes this book so great, never mind the incredibly funny scenes ^^ (aka when Sanderson Vaughn chases after Nate at the university).

This was just a-fucking-dorable. Typical Mary Calmes type of story, with that one guy that everyone just loves, who was genuinely likable to the reader as well. Couple that with a totally hot alpha and what's not to love?

Whelp. There’s not much to say here.

I’m going to deem this another “cozy” Mary Calmes. I was pleasantly stoked to find this loosely connected to the A Matter of Time series, intermittently featuring supporting character Duncan Stiel, but that’s beside the point.

Here, Nate doesn’t even know he wants his handsome neighbor until said handsome neighbor makes it known. And in grand Mary fashion, things move hot, wet, and fast. Literally.

Totally absurd in that you know there’s going to be a little drama, there’s going to be lots of oohing and ahhing and “I love you’s”, and there’s going to be some insta-love with very nice smexy.

So if you know that going in, there shouldn’t be any surprises or disappointments. Go forth and enjoy!

3.5 stars. I was really excited when I figured out this was Duncan's ex that he spoke to in Parting Shot. But I felt like Nate was Jory in this one again, but Nate kind of bugged me. Everyone loved Jory, and in this one everyone loved Nate, which was fine, but I didn't get the flirting and touching the women. Like when Nate hid in that female professor's office, and he was touching her thigh and breathing between her legs?! Just seemed odd for a gay guy. There were some little inconsistencies too because at the beginning Nate thought Dreo was scar and his eyes were always cold and black, but when they bump into each other at the hospital shortly after that, he thinks: Dreo's brown-black eyes were not like any others I had ever seen, and sometimes just for a second, I got lost there. Sometimes means that he's gotten lost in them previously, but he just thought they were always cold and black. Also, Nate hated that Duncan was in the closet when they were together because Nate was out and proud, but I thought when I read Parting Shot that it was mentioned that Nate had to be int he closet at the beginning because of his job. Anyway, at one point Nate was thinking about how he wanted Duncan to acknowledge him and touch him in public, even though Nate isn't a touchy-feely person. But if Nate isn't touchy-feely, then who is because the guy is forever touch everyone. He was always touching Michael, Dreo and pretty much anyone else he was speaking to. I think my problem is I will forever compare these Mary Calmes books to Jory and Sam because they are one of my all time faves.

Ended too quickly

I really enjoyed the book. Right up to the very sudden ending. I would love to read more about Nate and Dreo's families. Also for Dreo and Sal was out really out.

Though I've read this a couple of times, listening to it was a whole new experience. Dreo murmuring in Italian? SWOOOOON.

Still a huge favorite.

Genuinely really enjoyable. Nate was, as said, such a lovable character, so well written and I loved the fluidity of it. However, the only think that made me frown was the lack of how Nate’s and Dreo’s relationship actually grew - like the way they knew each other for 4 years and then they just suddenly both irrevocably fell in love with each other - which sure could be said from Dreos side, but not Nate’s, especially beacuse it’s from Nate’s pov and he delves into his inner musings a lot, so it’s a wonder why how and when he even began to see Dreo as a potential partner. I suppose you could argue that there are stages and moments where Nate has some level of infatuation for Dreo but I wished their was a little more of how they built their relationship, especially from non talking neighbours to acquaintances, friends and then to lovers.

Just a really easy read, not too typical either, to be honest I just enjoyed it. I think all the characters were written really fucking well and the plot was enjoyable and not too predictable / although a little typical

I don’t know how to word it, but it was good. Not out of this world mind blowing but I’m giving it 4 stars because it was almost, comforting? Great!

In conclusion, I binged this within a day and was highly sleep deprived, but I would recommend if one enjoyed an easy read.

Quick, fun, sexy read. I prefer her Marshals series (Twisted and Tied), but overall I enjoyed this mafia romance. Dreo speaking in Italian is a new weakness of mine. I could almost overlook the MC Nate being a little too perfect and every minor character being “gorgeous.” But as a Chicagoan, Calmes captured the city and its suburbs really well. The sex scenes were on-fire steamy and I ate up the age gap trope. Can’t go wrong with Calmes.

I loved this book. I loved Nate, Dreo, Michael, Melissa and Ben and many more people that were in this book. There's just something about how Mary Calmes writes it's so real and she pulls you in. Nate and Dreo were so refreshing especially Nate he was so honest and didn't play games, ask him a question and he answers honestly whether you want to hear the truth or not, lol I hope she's not done with them. I know a lot of times people are leery about the females in m/m but I have to tell you I had no problem with them in this one and just loved Melissa.
