Shot on Gold is an Olympic hopeful story. But it's also a hockey player and a figure skater...sigh. I love the brawny, tough guy and the statuesque woman.

The rough and tumble of a hockey player in contrast to the grace and elegance of a figure skater is just so visually appealing...in my head at least. Add some great new friends, some great games, and adrenaline, it will keep you smiling.

From greeting to goodbye, Shot on Gold is sweet with plenty of sultry, a side of naughty, and a whole lot of confidence.

I loved these characters. A few things that bothered me and kept it from being 5 stars, but overall I really enjoyed it. I’ve loved this whole series, actually.

Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton has just the right amount of sweet and sex going on. This book can be read stand alone.
Will "Mad Dog" Madigan is an outgoing hail well met fellow except for on the ice. As a hockey player he is focused and determined.
U.S. figure skater Amber Sloane is determined to get the gold. She knows this will be her last shot. She is shy having been kept apart by her micro managing mother. Hell at 24 she is still a technical virgin. She is going to change that and she thinks Will is the right man for the job.
Set among the Olympics these two get together and may get more out of it than just a medal.
I really enjoyed this book. You don’t have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy but when you are done you may want to check out your local team.

Shot on Gold mixes a few of my favorite things together: the Olympics, talented people being confident in their own abilities, and romances involving athletes. Yeah, I don't identify with any of these things, that's the entire point, right?

This whole series - which I read much of several years ago and I'm finally working my way towards the end of now - has a few issues that are present in this book. First of all, the writing is often pretty soulless. Like, it's clear that the writer has a set pattern for writing her books and that takes away from the reader's connection to the story and characters. Second, the vast majority of the characters in each book are exactly the same. Think... strong, athletic, confident (but not too Alpha) man, matched with strong, beautiful, but not stuck-up woman with some baggage. This is pretty standard for the genre. Third, the author is throwing in a random career that she knows nothing about and uses stereotypes/inaccurate information in the story. (The World Championships are called "The Worlds" here. Uh.)

Where this book differs from the rest of the series (as far as I can remember; sorry, I read 7 of these in 2019 and I'm trying to finish the rest in 2021) is that both of the love interests are athletes. This gives the book an interesting dynamic that we don't see elsewhere; the female MC has a confidence that reverberates throughout her life, which can be attributed to her sports ability. This book also features a pretty... well, easy romance? Does that make sense? Like, they fall in love and the only "drama" that occurs (with less than 10% of the book remaining) is clearly only present because the author thought the book needed drama. Finally, this book takes place at the Olympics, which is pretty awesome.

Is this the best romance ever? No. Does it hit the sweet spot as far as sports romances are concerned? Yes. I'd read it again.

I do love sports romance and I have been reading more of them in the past couple of year.

Shot on Gold is book fourteen of the Play by Play series by Jaci Burton . This book features the Olympics and features 2 of my favourite sports (hockey and figure skating).

Shot on Gold is a hot fun read that got me hooked from the very beginning. I do love Will and Amber together.

You do not have to read any of the previous books in the Play by Play series to read this book

I am giving this 4 out of 5

It just wasn’t what I needed right now and it didn’t provide the same drama as the rest of the series.

Ok

I enjoyed this book but I didn’t love it. I had a hard time getting past them repeatedly saying the Winter Olympics are every four years but beyond that the story kind of dragged for me. I found myself skimming at times just wanting to get to the end. The overall story was good but it felt like it was missing something. The biggest problem though was the end. Way too rushed.
