OK... I am still loving this series.

Seriously, Bones is what makes these books rock! Yes, Cat is great. No, she is a flying in your face, kick-butt, awesome! Bones, however, is the one whose strength exudes all over the story. He is hot. He has the calm and cool collected thing going on. He loves his woman and he is fiercely protective of her but it is not overly done. He is one vampire who has his act together. Bones is a leader who leads incredible strength and power. He knows how to think and go into action. Yes, I think Bones is Cat's center. She is a great when she is command of her fighting team but Bones gives her strength that she lacks in her personal life. Ah yeah, the steamy scenes are good...very good. As I mentioned before, the steamy scenes blend in nicely with the storyline.

This 3rd book, At Grave's End, does not lack for action, great plot, humor, romance and paranormal elements. It is wonderful to see that this series continues to grow and expand in storyline and character development.

I look forward to the next installment of Night Huntress - Destined for an Early Grave (release date July 28,2009)

So, this is one of my favorites in this series, we get to meet Vlad, more of Mencheres and Ian, and of course the moment when Cat sees the Helicopter land. I loved seeing Spade, Ian, Mencheres, and the rest of Bone's creation and how they treated Cat it was awesome. I cry every time I read this even though I know what is happening. This book is really pivotal to the rest of the series and the Night Huntress World books. I can't get enough of these books!

It was pretty good for being the third book in the series. it kept the same attitude and everything that made the first book enjoyable. I can't wait for the next one.

Cat Crawfield should be having the time of her life with the vampire Bones at her side. After successfully protecting the mortals from rogue undead, she’s unable to keep her identity a secret. Hunting as the Red Reaper isn’t working anymore, no matter how hard she disguises herself. And now a vengeful vamp is coming after Bones.

While the focus of this novel is more the plot and action advancement, I honestly prefer it that way. The romance had started to feel repetitive and uninspiring. I do wish that there was less of the tolerance that Cat shows to Tate, simply because that kind of toxic obsession is not healthy for anyone. The glimpses into the rest of the supporting characters was worth putting up with the lackluster Tate. I especially liked Bone’s Grandsire. Looking forward to reading more about him in future novels!

Once again, plot armor & random paranormal complications were added in to Cat's life alongside Bones and her mysterious government agency. Character deaths? A few but none I'd complain about. For a second, I thought Frost was finally going to off her whiny mother. It's all fluff! Continuing on to the next!

This was a difficult book to review, just because there was so much going on and I really have no idea where to start.

First off this book also was an emotional roller-coaster, happy, excited, scared, sad, relieved, back to worried.

I thought Cat grows a lot in this book and finally comes to terms what she is and embraces it. While she had some truly weak moments, she was stronger than ever before. She showed what she can do and will do to protect those around her and avenge the people she loves. She showed her vampire site more and more and is becoming a vampire more than she realizes it. I think.

On a site not I really doubt that she can be the only one like her. I mean was there only ever one horny newly turned vampire?  I don’t think so, but oh well. Also if he dies a now, will she turn into a vampire without being turned? Be nice to know but I’m not in a hurry her being killed ….just yet.

In this book more things about her father come to light and things are being resolved more or less, but I really think that is not the end of if just yet.

Her mother in this book really surprised me. She also had some great comic relieve once in a while which was much needed, with this book being a bit darker than the last two

We learn more about Merches, and Ian and meet Vlad for the first time. I really love that him and Bones don’t like each other, since most of the world just seems to love Bones.

Also like that she has now trusted friends Denise and her husband, and that both of them know her and Bones “secret”.

Of course there is Cat’s team. I really love her team it is such a nice mix if people, that all balances each other out. Some I like more than others of course and then there is Tate …… I don’t know what to think of him…. One moment I love him and another I want to hurt him. He is There are also a bunch of changes in the team happening, again not really sure if I love them all. I have to see how it all plays out further to really judge it.

Bones, some big things are happening with him as well and I’m not sure how much I can say without spoiling it. But one think is for sure no matter what he will always be there for Cat and her family and do whatever it takes to protect her and them. No matter what the cost. He also can get pretty cruel, but we knew that and so does Cat but he has something he doesn’t want her to see and that kind of put a wedge between the two.

There is a lot of action, gore, suspense but also humor and romance happening.  But not all is sunshine and rainbows in the end and we lose some dear friends, not everyone makes it out alive and some were truly heartbreaking. Actually there are a few heartbreaking points in this book.

Overall I loved this book and can’t wait to see what is happening next, I rate this book 4 ½ ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Actually, Justina, I didn't just ring you to chat about what an undead murderer I was...right, degenerate whore as well. Did I ever tell you my mum was one? No? Oh, blimey, I come from a long line of whores, in fact I called to give you the good news. I asked you daughter to marry me. Now, do you want me to call you Mum straightaway, or wait until after the wedding?”

***

“I’d gone heavy on the black eye makeup until raccoons and I could pass for cousins.”

***

“Wow,” Tate whispered. “They’re fucking right on the dance floor. ”

“I see that.” There was an edge to my words.

Dave gave me a sideways grin. “Juan will cry at being stuck in the van. If he were here, he’d be screaming 'Authenticity’s imperative!' and taking his pants down.”

***

“Killing your rival doesn’t guarantee happiness. Sometimes it ruins any chance you have of it instead. Memories of dead men hold far more power than the annoyances of living ones.”

***

“Nothing else mattered but right now. This instant, I’d become the person I’d always wanted to be. Strong. Fearless. Loyal. Someone even I could be proud of.”

Third in the urban fantasy series, Night Huntress.

My Take
This is a bridge novel taking us from One Foot in the Grave, 2, to Destined for an Early Grave, 4. Yes, there is a lot of action: the engagement that goes nowhere; Bones makes good on one of his promises to Don, which leads to some interesting suspicions; and, he and Mencheres make an alliance that's making Ian very unhappy.

But this uplift of support doesn't last long when an ages-old enemy attacks Bones, his death assured and Cat's only thoughts are of suicide.

I do adore Bones…I can see why all the readers rave about him! Besides being good in bed, he has such a wicked sense of humor. The way he takes on Cat's mum…snicker, heck, maybe even a guffaw…telling her that Cat has said "yes":
"…didn't just ring you to chat about what an undead murderer I was…right, degenerate whore as well. Did I ever tell you my mum was one? Oh, blimey, I come from a long line of whores, in fact…called to give you the good news…Now, do you want me to call you Mum straightaway, or wait until…"
Bones is so protective and, even though he's a several hundreds-year-old "man", he works very hard at accepting Cat as an equal.

Cat, however, is pissing me off. She's such a stubborn, childish thing. I don't understand why she doesn't see how hard Bones tries to protect her and their future together.

The Story
Information uncovered while on one of their government missions leads to a nightmarish recreation of an event from Cat's past and both Cat and Bones learn that someone is behind all the assassins Cat is encountering. Information thrust at them from the most hated individual in Cat's life.

The kicker is the New Year's Eve gathering with a magical ghoul attack.

The Characters
Catherine "Cat" Crawfield-Russell is a half-vampire in love with Bones, a several hundred years old vampire. Justina is Cat's mom. Mencheres had been a Patraoh back in the day before he was turned into a vampire. Now he's Bones' honorary gradsire and friend. Vlad Dracul Tepesh is the original Dracula. Denise MacGregor is a friend of Cat's. Spade and Ian have been mates with Bones since their convict days in Australia. Randy.

Patra is Mencheres' wife.

Don Williams heads up the government unit for whom Cat and Bones work; he's also Cat's uncle. Tate Bradley is one of his agents.

The Cover
Oh yeah, this is a much more Cat-like pose — cocky with a challenge as she stares us down, one knee bent on the ice the other leg cocked at a 90-degree angle, ready for action.
