Unscripted by Jayne Denker

I didn’t understand how Faith could have done what she did accidentally, and the book didn’t show enough of what was happening in the present to explain Faith’s actions.

I didn’t like Faith’s stepbrother because of how self-centred he was, and I also didn’t understand their relationship.

Something else happens with Faith’s ‘friend’ and I just didn’t care to continue with this book.

This is the third book of Ms. Denker's that I've read and she has yet to disappoint. A little more 'in your face' than her sweet, small-town Marsden series, Unscripted is a funny look at some behind the scenes of the Hollywood TV scene. From the first paragraph, I was hooked. Seriously, one of the best first paragraphs I've ever read. A closed-door romance that will have you cheering for Faith. This is romantic comedy and chick lit at its finest. Ms. Denker is a go-to author for me, and Unscripted is a must read.

Great story, great characters and dialogue. I would read more by this author. The only thing that was bad was the cover! Very inappropriate for a college professor and an almost forty woman!

The last book I picked up I DNF’d at chapter six. I couldn’t get through chapter one in this book. Told in first person, the heroine’s generic bravado (“I’d gotten even closer to him . .. and grabbed his ball-sack”) and trite characterization are too much too stomach. DONE

2.5 stars. Clever writing, douchey heroine, tedious pacing.

Hmm. Overall the story was good but I was expecting a romance and got more of a coming of age story - except the main character wasn't a young twenty-something, but rather a thirty-something having to re-evaluate her life and priorities. If you go into it wanting that type of story, you'll be fine, but I was almost halfway finished before I felt engaged, and the main character was pretty selfish for most of the plot line.
