Synopsis: She loves him… Lizzie Green once loved Tom Murphy with a passion that bordered on obsession. All she wanted was his love to be returned. Then one night something terrible happened and Tom left Lizzie broken hearted. She swore she would never let him hurt her again…. She loves him not. Now, ten years later, Tom turns up on Lizzie’s doorstep still as charming as ever. Lizzie knows he still has the power to break her heart and destroy her life again. But Lizzie can’t say no to him….

My Thoughts: The story is narrated by Beth, who was formally Lizzie, from her perspective, and in alternative timeframes, then and now. She was born Lizzie but reinvented herself into Beth. Lizzie/Beth is an extremely likable and relatable character, Tom on the other hand, is not. The characters are well developed, they had depth, they had some tension to them, Lizzie had growth throughout the story, and were intriguing. The author’s writing style had complex layers, created the tension with twists, and kept me engaged throughout the book. The book did have some slow parts. The storyline, character interchanges, plot, and ending were not only well executed, but was tied together nicely, flowed well, and the author was descriptive enough that you could envision being there. This was the first book by this author that I have read but it will not be my last. Overall, a very enjoyable read.

This is a wonderful quick read with an unexpected ending. Lizzie struggles with anxiety that stems from her past. Rom, her childhood friend, was always there for her until he wasn’t. Now Tom is back and Lizzie has to face her past.
As someone who has anxiety I loved the way the author described Lizzie. Her feelings were written so accurately. I know the point of the book is not to focus on anxiety but if you or someone you know has anxiety, this book will help describe the feeling. Unless you have anxiety it’s hard to understand what it feels like and why you can’t do things people think you should be able to.

The Other Girlfriend is my second read by this author. I'd describe this one as a slow burn psychological character driven story. It isn't an action story, rather and complex and layered story of a women who is struggling with the past and trying to learn the truth about what happened. The authors portrayal of the characters trauma and agoraphobia is very well done and realistic. I've seen other reviews mention the frustration about the characters personalities but for me that is the essence of the book, the author knows how to write complex characters and makes us want to see them grow and succeed. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an arc of this book in exchange for a review.

I really enjoyed this dual timeline, slow build thriller. The characters were well written, each with their own motivations and desires. Following Lizzie/Beth through her life and seeing everything that happened then and now through her eyes made for a really interesting read and one I raced through as it really kept me hooked!

I hadn't guessed the ending by the time it was unravelled but it made perfect sense once I'd read it. It was so nice to have a book surprise me like that, I just hadn't spotted the clues.
