Kelly’s book chronicles the eternal battle to keep nature at bay. This vivid portrait of strange and steamy Florida reminds us just how creaturely we are as the narrator simultaneously defends her territory against squirrels and ants and roaches and empathizes with the desire to make yourself a home.

This is a great collection of short stories that really allow place to become a character. There’s a slightly spooky overtone to the items in the inventory which makes it even more interesting. Disclaimer: I am an Assistant Managing Editor for Split/Lip Press.
