It's both an easy and a difficult read. The story ambles along nicely and it's difficult not to get drawn in, but some of the subject matter and behaviour is quite challenging. Some of the "extras" are wooden stereotypes, but there are enough three-dimensional characters to provide a reasonably convincing backdrop.
The revelation about Victoria and Dom not being full siblings didn't come as anything of a surprise, although how it came about seemed a bit tacked on and artificial.

For a comedian, Mark Watson does a great line in heartbreaking melancholy. A tale of a slightly dysfunctional family relationship, this was gently and sensitively written.

This book is one of the most unexpected books I've ever read. Maybe it's because I didn't do any research into it before I bought it - I don't even remember if I read the blurb?! - since I'd enjoyed Mark Watson's 'Eleven' so much. Just a warning that this book should be kept to more adult readers as there are some themes that can be considered to be very sensitive, and it's not for the faint hearted! Some of it was completely shocking to me, but I grew to love all of the characters in their own way and the ending even left me tearing up a bit. I think I still prefer Eleven, but I wasn't disappointed by Watson's latest book!

This book was something special. I had so many emotions at the end and even shed a tear. Would 100% recommend. Slow paced but worth it.
