I love Vico's narration style, but even they couldn't keep me interested in this book.

Only realized the author is problematic AFTER finishing the book and reading reviews. Hesitantly rating this 5 stars based on the story alone. The narrator, Vico Ortiz, is one of my favourites. I genuinely enjoy the book, but won’t recommend it due to the author being icky. Read some of the other reviews for details. I’ll leave it at that.

I found it to be alright. I was really excited to read this one, but I feel like I was let down. I enjoyed some parts of the plot, but it wasn't enough for me to like it overall

This book is honestly so beautiful I would definitely recommend this book to many people I loved the development of the characters and I loved the use of pronouns and how to break away from the gender stereotypes

I did not know the author was problematic before starting this book. I do not agree with his actions/opinions (lesbophobia, etc). I will only be reviewing the actual book and it's contents.

I am a bit disappointed with the story. It's not horrible, but it definitely was not what I expected. The pacing was off, especially at the end. There were problems with some character development and it seemed like there were too many issues that wanted to be discussed and solved all throughout the book and didn't really get solved. In my opinion, it would've been a lot better if the pov was split between the 2 mcs. A lot of the other characters besides the primary mc seemed to be very 2 dimensional and hard to connect with.

It was cute. But the protagonist seemed to go from never having dysphoria to having it every second of every day within a span of like 2 weeks, just kinda out of nowhere.
For a book that had a whole scene about "great media subverting expectations," the "surprise twist" could be seen a mile off, literally from the very first scene with "Aida."
Cute book, hopeful, but not particularly groundbreaking.

I was honestly not looking forward to reading this book once I realized it was “YA” but it epitomized everything I love in queer romance. Characters who felt real and that you could root for and understood their flaws. The film setting seemed far fetched at first, but once I suspended disbelief I enjoyed living in the bizarre Hollywood-like world. I would 100% recommend this book. It made me think, feel and feel a whole range of emotions.
