This was a "can't put down" book!!! The only reason I took so long to read it was that I was already in the middle of another (dead tree) book when I started. I can't talk about the ending without giving it away; but believe me, things are getting ready to get real western, real fast! You have to read these in order, but it is so worth the time invested!

I do enjoy a Joe Pickett and this one was poking fun at the social media world. There’s a second story line with Nate that I’m assuming will get resolved in the next book. Sheridan is a bit more involved in this book as well which makes me happy. I keep waiting for some sort of spin-off with her as the focus.

Very fun and readable. Verges on preachy re social media despite my sharing concerns about that subject. That didn’t make the book unjoyable for me.

That's it. I've effectively caught up with the series.

I have read all 21 Joe Pickett books in a little over 2 years. I read the majority of them in 2020, from Winterkill to Vicious Circle, from January 2020 to December 2020. While I have no words to describe how much I love these books, let me just note that I believe the series to be a literary feast.

Now that there are no more books to be read, I have to wait for a whole year before a new book comes out, just like a lot of other readers. The series has been so therapeutic for me and it has helped me through thick and thin, I'm torn between a sense of satisfaction and an inevitable feeling of sadness that I have no more Joe Pickett books to turn to in tough times now. Still, what's important is how much I love the series and I still have other C.J. Box books anyway.

It's not all sad, we've got a glimpse of book 22, called Shadows Reel, and the cover looks stunning. I've got something to look forward to, at least.

I listened to the e-audiobook version. A rather predictable tale of Joe Pickett surviving in the Wyoming wilderness with no resources available (guns, shelter, food, water) while a family of three men stalk him and a tech mogul. Elk hunting trip gone wild. This family is consumed by vengeance and ruthless in ensuring there are no witnesses. Leave no trace for people.

There’s also a back plot involving Nate Romanowski and falcon thievery which could have been omitted or been a separate book but it provides the transition to the next book.

Here’s a good quote from Nate when he’s told he’s brought too many weapons to search for the missing Joe Pickett. “One never has enough guns. “

WOW, First of all, WOW. I have enjoyed some time in Wyoming, reading C.J. Box latest Joe Pickett story Dark Sky. I love this series and the author is one of the best out there. Once again Joe gets a summon from the governor that he needs to babysit an IT-company director and hopefully get some business to Wyoming. What could possibly go wrong? The mortality rate in Twelve Sleep is nothing to worry about. In this book we have two parallel problems, one concerning social media and the other falconry. It is non stop action all the way. We get to meet all the usual suspects including Nate with his hand cannon. I have to thank #PenguinPublishingGroup #GPPutnamsSons and #Edelweiss for letting me have this advance copy.
