When two acquaintances on the police force find themselves accused of taking bribes and committing perjury, they turn to barrister Antony Maitland. His well-known talent for getting to the truth of things (or "meddling", as his uncle puts it) is the only thing likely to save the two men from a prison sentence. Antony knows he's getting somewhere when he's attacked. but it's another courtroom showdown that concludes this exciting book.
