I absolutely loved this book! There is so much world building and characterization in such a small amount of time. I can’t wait to read the second book & see what happens next!

Nuns in space!

It's difficult to have a fresh take on the question of how religions will mould themselves to the idea of human civilisation beyond Earth, but I think Rather does a good job.

Especially taken as a character study, it's a very interesting exploration of the motives that people have for choosing their paths in life.

This novella treads lightly where some of the larger themes of science fiction are concerned - the evolution of technology, questions of empire and colonization, but makes up ground by being more rooted in individuals and their motivations.

I really enjoyed the audiobook by Adenrele Ojo.

The plot resolves a little too easily (I would have liked more background on the larger forces at play), and I felt like a lot of setup went into the question of whether the ship had a soul and then that was very much discarded, but I'm looking forward to the next installment.
