This book started out decent. It could've been a good ghost story, even if it was predictable. But then, all of a sudden, there's a zombie? What the..? The only reason I give the book two stars is because it started out decent and it did have the potential to be good. Why the author switched it up and brought out the zombie, I don't know.

2 and 1/2 stars
An okay horror read. Enjoyed the setting and the first part of the book, but the family drama, predictable plot twists, and male gaze got tiring.

The story itself was okay but very predictable and the dialog between the characters was pretty cheesy at times. It was an okay read but I wasn't really into it so it took me a while to finish it.

It was an okay premise, but at the same time, incredibly predictable. It was also let down by a forced romantic encounter and random zombie at the end. (Seriously, why did the boyfriend randomly show back up? It was as if they had to justify the character development done earlier by making him a bad guy at the end.)

Nice try, but no cigar.

I liked this book. The eeriness and suspense grabbed me right from the start. The author spoon feeds you little bits of the story at a time, but enough to keep you turning pages. I did figure out the twist near the end but this didn't ruin the book for me. Fans of ghost stories will enjoy this I think.

This novel was amazing and quite horrifying! I was hooked from the moment it began, trying to figure out what exactly was going on in the Young mansion. The novel was very well written and the ending was just as impressive as the rest of the novel. I'd recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys thriller and supernatural reads as The Killing Room was a real page turner!

Manning is a great writer, but this book takes focus. Not that I don't find intricate literature compelling, but I can't say that I even fully understood the outcome of this. Maybe there was some sort of disconnect or maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

It's a fantastic thriller, and written in a way that will keep you up all night (I suggest putting it down after nine).
