Solid

I'm enjoying this series. There is a good amount of character development and world building. I wish there was a little bit more romance, but that's just a personal preference.

This book in one sentence: While hunting for a murderer, Olina gets separated from her palace friends and starts a new life as a pit fighter, discovering a new side of Glacium.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Steaminess: 🌶️🌶️
Would I recommend: Yes, but read Fantasy of Frost first. I love how Olina's character is developped and expanded in this book. I also feel like the universe was even more nuanced and detailed, while still flowing from book 1 and building on those story elements.
Content warnings: violence, murder, (non-graphic) rape

HOLY SHIT this book !!!
A book in a completely different setting from the previous book : we knew the Palace of Osolis and of Glacium but there we discovered a new aspect of Glacium : the slums !!
Lina is no more a princess, she built her own life as Frost, a fighter in illegal fights. And I LOVE to see her evolving to become more Frost (although she was already a badass before, it was fun to see her gain confidence in herself =)), making friends while still investigating the death of Kendrick .
And if I had loved her companions in the first book (especially Rhone and Malir) I ADORE meeting the fighters (Avalanche, Shard, Blizzard, Ice, Flurry and all other but also Willow, Crystal, Sin ...) They were all so much funny !! And I love to see them evolving, they are not only some characters there to highlight the main characters, they all have their own importance (eg Prince Ashawn that grew up a lot !!)
I loved the scene in the arena, how Frost managed it and it was fun to see both her worlds collided ><
In this book, her relationship with Jovan evolved a lot, took a new meaning and a new depth and I must admit I sooo love them : they are natural, they say bullshit, they argue, they reconcile ... In short, I love it =D
In short, I'm totally going to read the next book ><
PS: The scene where she defies Jovan while wearing her leather suit and he realizes that Lina and Frost are the same person ... PRICELESS <3

I am so conflicted about this book. I loved Fantasy of Frost, the first book in this series, Fantasy of Flight, however, was not what I expected. While I enjoyed it, I can't say I loved it. It felt like an entire different story, different book, different everything, for, at least, half of the story. I was so disappointed because I didn't understand where the author was going with it.

Our heroine, Olina, had to become a different person with her veil gone. That I understand. But then she stayed away from the King and her entire life, for I don't know how many months. She didn't want to go back which made me sad because I loved her relationship with the delegation in the first book. I also wanted to see the romance with the king develop into something more serious.

I did like the new characters introduced in this book, much like the delegation, they're a group of misfits that founded their own little family circle. But the entire thing just seemed all over the place. There are so many characters now, from different part of the book that don't know the same Olina, if that makes sense. Some know her as Tatuma/Olina, some as Frost and some as Willow. It just was a little frustrating to read.

I did like the end of the book better. She goes back to the King and her old friends, even if they still don't who she really is, apart from the king. The romance does go a little further and I was happy, until Olina starts to pull away once again and that was honestly so annoying. I like her as a character, I think she grew a lot since the beginning of the first book and I like how strong, fierce and independent she became, but her reaction to some things were childish.

Hopefully things will be better in the third book, more focused on the actual main characters and not all over the place like this one was. I still enjoyed it because even though it was confusing, the new character were endearing and I hope to see them again. I'm excited to see more of King Jovan and see how his relationship with Olina will develop. Finally, I hope Fantasy of Fire will answer some of the burning questions we have since the first book, I feel like nothing has been cleared up yet.

Great sequel!

This book was enthralling. The world building alone makes this series a must-read if you enjoy fantasy. I'm excited to start the next one!

I had no idea that we would end up here but I’m so glad we did. Of all the books in the series, I enjoyed this one the most.

I love a good underdog. When people underestimate a character and they prove their worth? *chefs kiss* and that happens multiple times in this book. I also love the relationships made and the new characters introduced. It really was so fun to read.
