I eat a lot of candy, but imagine if you ate candy and you got superpowers from it?! What a wild world that I would like to indulge in and experience. Especially when you could get something out of eating candy? Like flying? Bruh super cool book.

I remember reading and loving this book as a child, the time travel and intrigue of potentially many villains, and it was fun to revisit it! however, as one of the top comments mentioned like 10 years ago (and had been debated in the comments since) the use of magic to change race for disguise purposes was really bizarre; as an adult, the descriptions around it felt really weird. Other descriptions of characters’ race also felt clumsily done and uncomfortable, which is a shame and the author and editors should have done better.

I have never read Fablehaven, so I wasn't sure if I would enjoy his writing. I added The Candy Shop War to my to-read shelf years ago but our library didn't have a copy. Years later I saw it at Seagull Book at a great price and bought it and brought it home where it has been sitting on my shelf for a few more years. I am so glad I noticed the sequel to this book on a new books display in the youth department ( my library had got them!) which reminded me to read this and I'm so glad I did!
Great fun for all ages! I love a book you can give to a kid without reservation that is also entertaining to an adult--in this case especially if the adullt enjoys a little fantasy.

Who can turn away from entering a candy store? The group of friends couldn't refuse. They just didn't expect to find so many adventures with magical candy.

I read Mull's Fablehaven series before The Candy Shop War. I adored Fablehaven, so naturally, I found Mull's previous story. Mull writes an imaginative and adventurous tale that will be enjoyed by kids of all ages. What sold me on this piece of fiction was the amazing final twist to the tale. Mull has a way of adding the perfect surprise twist that takes my breath away. I am looking forward to his new series - Beyonders.

Reader Emily Janice Card shares the story very well. Each character has a distinct voice that remains strong throughout the entire story.

Not as good as Fabelhaven, but it is very fun. I haven't read this since I was a kid and I worry it won't hold up.
