It's like a 4.5 by the end.

The world building and effort in creating the religiousness/lore made the world so palpable. Jemisin has the rare ability to construct an alternative world that resembles our world in some ways but also is completely unrecognizable. It’s a little dense at the beginning but still one of the best fantasy books I’ve read the past 12 months. If any bookstore sold the sequel to this book I’d be reading it right now.

I'm not sure I'm not into this. The writing is fine The story is okay. I'm just not invested in any of the characters I guess

I love NK Jemisin. She’s such a great writer and builds the world so well. I liked the story of how the world started and all the aspects to the city. So good! Seeing where she came from to the fifth wave and the city we become is really interesting too.

Good story, great magic system, but a little hard to follow.

This was my first time reading N.K. Jemisen, and I am hooked. The Killing Moon is a near-perfect fantasy ready: the world-building is original and thorough, the characters are complex, fully developed, and their roles/actions within the plot line up with the person they've been described as. There were a lot of surprises and suspense - I read this quickly and was completely immersed.
