I had read this book a couple years ago, but I was excited when I was given a chance to review the audio version for both this and the sequel.

Although it had been a while since I read it, once the story began I realized how much of it that I actually remembered. Much like the first time, I was quickly drawn in - even though I already knew what to expect. I would have to credit that to Jessica Duncan's narration. I think she did a pretty good job, especially in keeping my interested at the bits I already knew what to expect. She gave me a different view of the characters, and I found myself feeling a bit differently about them.

One thing I'd like to point out - even with knowing what was going on, I still found myself in suspense or feeling uncomfortably nervous all over again.

The second time around and I still like it. If you're a fan of paranormal horror, then I recommend this one.

I had purchased the ebook when it was first released, but was given a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Although I had intended on reading this a while ago, life happened and it was placed on the back burner. When I was offered the audio version in exchange for an honest review, I jumped at the chance. I already have the book, so it just gave me an excuse to finally give it a go.

This one takes place in the future, using the kids of the main characters in the first story. Except it also takes place soon after Small Things ended. Also, like the last one, there's a whole paranormal/horror thing going on. But there's also TIME TRAVEL, because why the hell not.

The lead into the story was not as catchy, and it left me confused for a few chapters. That was disappointing to me. But then everything started happening, but at the same time it all came together and I found myself really getting into this story.

There's a mystery going on, and both Ben and Katy are sent to the past to figure it out. And in doing so, they're trying not to screw things up with the past and also there's a whole lot of romantic tension between the two of them.

It was nice to see what happened after the end of the first one, and I found the way it was done to be amusing. In many ways, I liked this one more than the first. And, although this one has a different narrator, I found myself enjoying her as well. I think she really helped the story, especially in the harder to follow bits.

More drama, more mystery, about the same amount of paranormal, plus new characters. I did enjoy this story, and I am looking forward to book 3 more than I was anticipating this one... because this one ended on a gawd damn cliffhanger.

Grade: A
This wan’t a short novel ,but any means, but I didn’t want it to be either. I found myself flipping pages, over and over, getting deeper into the story, and losing hours. This isn’t just your typical monster story, though the author gets you to believe that at first. You fear the monster, you worry for the characters, then you dive deeper into the story, and see what the real monster is, and there’s no turning back. You are hooked into this story, and you want to see it play out.

All the characters are well written and interesting, and feel realistic. A nice time setting for this book, in the 70s, made everything fit together much nicely then if it were taking place in current day. We feel for the character, we root for them, and worry for them. They are a part of the story, and we become one too.

Joe has mastered horror. He gives us the creepy details, the wonderful foreshadowing, and the threat of danger. He keeps us looking over our shoulder for the monster, and leaving the lights on while reading. There’s a mix of Stephen King, James Patterson, and even some J.K Rowling in here. He crafts the horror, the mystery, the magic and suspense into one story you can’t stop reading.

Even the first sentence grabs you.. Some one is following him. Right away, we want to know, we get involved, and it’s a ride we won’t soon forget!

I’m so glad there’s more books to follow this one because honestly, Joe DeRouen is a great writer who is full of potential.

This is another one of those books that I wish I had in paperback, signed, on my shelf for everyone to see, because he’s going places with his writing, and I’m glad to have been a part of it! J
