I normally enjoy visiting other cultures and times via mysteries, but this book did not do it for me. I found myself thinking how much I preferred living in American culture, which is not my moral response. Also, the book did not grip me until I was 2/3 of the way through, by which time I was really unhappy with the book. Plus I just missed too many pieces so wrap up of mystery was unsatisfactory.

The only reason I persisted and finished the book was that I had bought so I felt I had to.

I do not understand my reaction to this book, because it seems like the sort I would like, but it is still my reaction.

Going to give it to a friend and hope she will like it better.
