2.5 Lots of interesting insider stuff from this military romance written by an actual military officer. And her portrait of men recovering from injury and war trauma is moving. Alas, the characters are rather one-note, their romance arc a bit unconvincing, and the writing itself very flat.

Excellent

The writing was well rounded. The characters were well developed and complex. It didn't matter if it was a primary or secondary character. They all had so much personality.

There was no instalove, just a strong attraction between Shane and Jen that developed over time. All of the couples had struggles that they needed to work through. This was not your average sweetness and light romance, but it definitely provided you with an HEA. I was pulled in from the first page and stayed engaged to the very end. If I had one complaint, it would be that I would have enjoyed more of Shane and Jen's relationship after the broke through their barriers.

I am looking forward to reading about what happens with Trent and Laura.

I loved this book. When I first found that I could download it off of goodreads I thought that it would probably be a crappy book because you cant usually get good books for free. But this book was real and emotional and all in all just a great read.

I gave my self a great Birthday present. Permission to read this series. I've been putting it off for so long. I knew it was going to be realistic and heart wrenching because of the subject. I'm a veteran who has never been to war, and military spouse of 11 years. It's funny, I was at BAMC today, I lived in Killeen for 2 years, still have friends up there. I know, I've said nothing about the actual book yet...I want more! I started reading and didn't want to stop. Shane is so strong and such an army guy. Jen, was sweet, with helping him recover, she was forced to recover herself. I'm gonna skip out of here now. I have a date with Trent and Laura!

The series continues with another winner

Even though there l a bit of a lag at various times through through the book, it always kept the storyline true. Both Jen and as how both main characters needed to heal each other. I really loved how Ms. Scott, who is a veteran herself and can weave truth instead of not only PTSD but a commanding officer who lived while he couldn't protect his soldiers . I'm excited to continue onto the next book in the series of coming home books.

Good on the depressing details of a military marriage, recovering from long deployments, and wartime injuries; not so great on the romance or on the mystery plotlines, some of which weren't resolved in this book (presumably to make room for the sequels). Additionally, I felt like both the hero and heroine had stronger relationships with their friend groups than they did with each other, honestly.

I like the vast majority of this story. I felt that the ending was a little rushed and would have liked to see a little more of their lives together. I'm definitely interested in reading more of her stories. She's done a great job of setting up secondary characters, and I hope to see them explored more.
