Grace reminds me of my son who has such an active imagination! She is a delight! The story is very simple, but empowering—you shouldn't let someone else's limited vision limit your own!

Grace, who loves to act out stories, is excited to learn that her school is putting on a play of Peter Pan. She wants to audition for Peter, but her classmates don't think she would be right for the role...since she is a girl and she is black. But Grace persists and shows everyone that she is a great actor.

A great book for reading aloud to a group of older children.

This is a lovely story of encouraging kids to do and be anything they want. Grace is amazing with her imagination and willingness to try anything. And so much can be attributed to her mom and Nana.

Nana tells Grace stories and Grace becomes the stories (with her cat’s companionship!). When Grace’s class decides to put on the play, Peter Pan, Grace decides to audition for the part---and does that girl fly!

If more parents were as supportive of their kids as Ma and Nana, our world would have many, many fewer problems. Parents, read this book as an example of how you should treat your children!

What a simply outstanding message! The takeaway for children will surely be immense.

I secured this title from my local library.

What a lovely book. My boys (6 & 10) really enjoyed the theme of this book. You can be anything you want to be in this world. The illustration was beautiful. I also loved that it included subtly a greater look of the African diaspora.

With beautiful, realistic illustrations accompanying the text, this book is really about creativity, imagination, and belief in oneself. However, it also manages to address both racism and the importance of representation without being preachy. Love it.

A beloved childhood book (for obvious reasons) - reread it today and it came rushing back. Every picture was so familiar, and the story was just as wonderful, although I understood the depth and importance of it more clearly as an adult.

I love how strong Grace's character. Once she put her mind to something, nothing can stop her.
