This second book of the trilogy turns everything on its head - characters you’ve liked before are now the villains and vise versa and relationship dynamics shift.

Fortunately, there is more action in this book and the stakes are somewhat higher (despite the ending of the first book).

This is basically 500 pages of Ali getting slapped in the face and it’s getting to the point where I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Loved the introduction of new characters and the necessary timeline jump to get the ball rolling.

I wish the scene with Suleiman’s seal was slightly different at the end regarding its possession but, undoubtedly, it had to have happened this way to set up the next book.

Just as compelling as the first. Now that I understand the world better, it is a much more seamless read. The aesthetically pleasing covers are also a great plus
