Fans who have read and enjoyed Pepper's previous books, including Symphony of Blood and Skin Games will enjoy his latest work, Buried a Man I Hated There, which focuses on a guy named Jack Maddox, who tragically lost his wife and daughter many years ago. However, his wife had a twin, Heidi, who Jack meets up with every Valentine's Day as a ritualistic homage to his departed wife. He starts to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Hawthorne, who is most definitely not someone who should be in any kind of a position in the mental health field and frankly, needs his own head checked out. There are blurred lines as to who Jack has become now versus who he was when his wife and daughter were still alive, which we get glimpses of, and they paint a very different picture than one may assume.

Buried a Man I Hated There is definitely more in the vein of "quiet" horror in that there aren't big thrills and chills, or axe-wielding murderers chasing after people, and there aren't any supernatural threats--it's not that kind of book, and is much more grounded in reality and what happens when a man's mind, for all intents and purposes, breaks, and how he can put it back together. It'll definitely keep you guessing as you turn the pages, and presents an interesting story with even more interesting characters.
