This took a long time to get going, and once it did it just kind of ended without giving any answers. We arrive at the end of the first book still hardly even knowing what's going on, which is both frustrating and dissatisfying.

Shadowspell academy is very well written, the characters are well developed and the scenes draw you right in to the book. The story is kind of reminded me of Harry Potter meets the Hunger Games. There are a lot of original ideas and plot twists in this book.
Wild is the main character and is one strong female lead. I love reading books with unapologetic strong female lead characters.
Wild's older brother left for the academy and was doing well there but then something happened and he ended up dead, now the academy is back at Wilds house and looking to take her little brother. Wild is not willing to lose another brother to the academy so she needs to think fast, because telling the academy no is really not something you can do.
This one is a page turner for sure and was so good that I already pre-ordered the next book in the series.

This book has a solid start and I think it's great for the young adult audience it's intended for. However, I'm not the intended audience. The premise was a cool throw back my young adult reading. It felt like a Tamara Pierce premise set in modern day, so I was intrigued.

Once I started reading the book, there as a bit of "The Magicans" vibe going on. I think that will appeal to many people, even though it didn't appeal to me.

In the end, no one thing turned me off, I just lost steam. It didn't grab me, but I can easily see it grabbing someone else's attention and keeping it.

I only read the first of three books in the Culling trials. I thought it was okay. I felt like it was taking a while to get going. There was some intrigue in the beginning when the concept of this academy was first introduced. Our main character decided to pose as her brother so we have a bit of a Mulan thing going on even though a few people know she’s a girl.

I liked the leader that she was growing into as she began to face the culling trials. The action was pretty good and I liked the uniqueness of the characters. I’m not sure why I wasn’t feeling more than three stars.. up there it is.

What a helpful review...

so let say that this book reminds me of Mulan (the Disney movie), the huger games and the maze runner. only with magic. that just sounds like a amazing book though.

and it was a very good book, I loved that our main character takes the place of her brother to protect him, because there older brother had died during this trials, only she didn't now that it was magical, so she feels betrayed when her father knows the story,

while going to the location given in the book she gets kidnapped and thrown in a helicopter and brought to the location, where the stuff made a production in which house she is going to be. during the ride she made a friend who is obsessed with death.

The five houses
House of Wonder
House of Night
House of Claw
House of Shade
House of Unmentionables

while going through the trials what are dangerous stuff she needs to hide that's she is female, this book is action packed and short, I read this and went to look how far I was in the kindle book and I was already 30% in the book while I just read 20 minutes, I hope the rest of the serie would be short.
