the writing of this is 5 stars but I just didn’t enjoy reading this, lowkey gave me an existential crisis
just wonderful. Recommend the audiobook 100%. Fell in love with the characters, first book I’ve read in a long time that really kept me held throughout and surprised. Charles and Maud are wonderfully written. Even the first prologue part captures your attention.

Wow. Just wow. Another great novel by Boyne. A true epic that spans over seventy years of our protagonists life. Equal parts funny, sad, and terrifying. A human story of the struggles of being homosexual in post modern Ireland.

Wow, a truely amazing book that plays with so many themes: Homosexuality, prejudices, catholicism, family, love, the AIDS pandemic, honesty, ... I really enjoyed following Cyril through the centuries. An emotional rollercoaster and at the same time a historic story about Ireland. Well worth any discussion in a book club!

This is the first book by John Boyne I’ve read, and what a book! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be angry, you’ll reminisce of times gone by. The title of the book is very fitting. Boyne does an excellent job at intertwining different characters as they would naturally enter, exit and re-enter each other’s lives. Really loved this book!
