I picked this one up because of my favorite Yorushika song, 『月に吠える』which shares its name with this collection. 

I’m pretty dumb and new when it comes to poetry in general, so reading this,,,, was not the easiest task. 

I was able to find a Youtube playlist with audio recordings for the first 50% or so of the book, which definitely helped me get through the old japanese and strange kanjis, but still, I couldn’t really understand what was going on most of the time lol

there were, however, a few verses and poems that stroke a chord for me, which i now shall share here:

詩とは感情の神経を摑んだものである。生きて働く心理学である。

悲しい月夜

 ぬすつと犬めが、
 くさつた波止場の月に吠えてゐる。
 たましひが耳をすますと、
 陰気くさい声をして、
 黄いろい娘たちが合唱してゐる、
 合唱してゐる。
 波止場のくらい石垣で。
 いつも、
 なぜおれはこれなんだ、
 犬よ、
 青白いふしあはせの犬よ。

死

 みつめる土地の底から、
 奇妙きてれつの手がでる、
 足がでる、
 くびがでしやばる、
 諸君、
 こいつはいつたい、
 なんといふ鵞鳥だい。
 みつめる土地の底から、
 馬鹿づらをして、
 手がでる、
 足がでる、
 くびがでしやばる。
酒精中毒者の死
こんなさびしい風景の中にうきあがつて、
 白つぽけた殺人者の顔が、
 草のやうにびらびら笑つてゐる。

さびしい人格

さびしい人格が私の友を呼ぶ、
 わが見知らぬ友よ、早くきたれ、
 ここの古い椅子に腰をかけて、二人でしづかに話してゐよう、
 なにも悲しむことなく、きみと私でしづかな幸福な日をくらさう、

人間が人間の皮膚のにほひを嫌ふといふこと。
 人間が人間の生殖器を醜悪にかんずること。
 あるとき人間が馬のやうに見えること。
 人間が人間の愛にうらぎりすること。
 人間が人間をきらふこと。

overall, a confusing but incredibly sad poetry collection.
