What a fun concept! The Cupid Connection is basically a reality-TV dating show in book form, with magic! In this first "episode" (a short-story length work of 15-20 minutes or so reading time), we meet Sadie Anne Monroe, the daughter of a dairy farmer who didn't know her mother had signed her up to be on the show and are introduced to the whole concept of the show. We meet the host, Artemis, and are briefly shown the bachelor contestants. Basically, this episode lays the groundwork for the rest of the series.

I picked this up because I had heard Melissa McArthur read from it at a convention, and really enjoyed the voice and humor in the excerpt I heard. The rest of the piece continued that zany energy and fish out of water awkwardness and made me laugh out loud several times.

I did find some of the storytelling a little disjointed. Just like a reality TV show, it jumped around a bit and I didn't always understand why we were jumping to the new scene. Because so many characters were introduced, I didn't fully connect with them to the depth I would like. But still, at the end of it, I was cheering for Sadie and hoping that she ends up with a happily ever after.
