Grand adventure involving family, friends and books - a game along the lines of geocacheing with a prize at the end and bad guys who want to take it.

I loved this book! I am a puzzler and a book lover and so this was really the perfect combination. For anyone who is the same, definitely pick it up. There are many literary references, especially to Kerouac and Ferlinghetti, which are really fun. I found out about a few books mentioned within the text that I had not heard of which is always a massive plus for me.

Soon, I will become Book Scavenger and will be hiding books, so fellow Scavengers - beware!

12-year-old Emily Crane moves frequently with her parents and older brother in their quest to live in all 50 states. Emily's constant is the Book Scavenger game, a concept similar to geo-caching but with puzzles and ciphers as clues to find books hidden in public places. When the Cranes end up in San Francisco, Emily is thrilled to make a fast friend with a word-puzzle-solving boy her age in the flat above hers. But she is even more excited when she finds what she eventually discovers is the first clue in a special-edition Book Scavenger mini-game. Will she get to the buried treasure before the bad guys? Best for ages 8-10 but would be enjoyed by older book lovers/gamers as well.
