Wow! That plot twist! I never saw that coming, I don't think that you will see it coming either! I am excited to see how the rest of the series will play out with the plot twist that happened. (This is not a spoiler review I will not mention anything that happened inside of the plot twist, so if you have not read this book you can read this review without getting any spoilers).

This is the fifth book in the Harry Potter series. It was pretty good! I give it 3 and a half stars. There are a few reasons for this. It felt like a longer time to get going from the third, and fourth books. The other reason is that it felt boring in a few areas (about two, or three areas. But they were shorter areas).

I had high hopes for this book. But this is some people's least favorite book in the series. But it is not my least favorite. Probably bottom three. But even the ones at the bottom of the list for the HP series, that does NOT mean that they are bad. That just means that they aren't my favorites. The HP series has no "bad" books. Is the book good? Short answer: yes!

Should you read this book? Yes!
Should you read this series? Duh! 100,000% of every book in this entire series has been worth it, even the first and second books. They are just the training wheels for the entire series, but they are worth reading. The first and second books are fun and enjoyable (but a bit childish, and not feeling like YA).

TW: death, violence, hate speech, hospilization
Trope: School setting, curses, witches/wizards
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Pacing: 3/5 (medium)
Actual Rating: 3.5 stars (may change)

Update: Apparently Harry did not annoy me nearly so much in 2012. I found this a hard listen this time around. Umbridge filled me with deep dread and Harry was an absolute little shit. The fourth star is solely for Luna.

Good lord, I've not reviewed a single book I've read this year & it's already February. *deep breath* Here goes...

I continued enjoying the series with [b:Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix|2|Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5)|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327625733s/2.jpg|2809203]. To me it had an added depth, although with that came more dark aspects. Now that I have finished, I think this is probably my favorite book in the series. The book begins with Harry saving his corpulent cousin from a dementor his subsequent trial for using magic while still underage as well as using magic in front of a Muggle. During this trial, we meet Dolores Umbridge, a women who truly deserves to be slapped then locked far away from any children. I risk turning this into a book report, so I am going to go back to my thoughts on the book itself.

This is the book in which the kids move from childhood into adolescence. Unfortunately, I did not find this transition to be particularly well-written. I repeatedly found myself wondering what on earth the children were doing hardcore making out. I think their thought processes and actions did not change sufficiently in other areas to make them seem their actual ages. I repeatedly forgot that they were teenagers.

Perhaps my favorite thing about the book was the atmosphere that developed at Hogwart's, and to some extent in the rest of the world of magic. I found this to be an excellent depiction of the ways in which power is gained and lost, as well as how resistances are founded. The parallels between the core group of kids at Hogwart's and the titular organization was well done.
