I love Chris Hicks. When I was young, I would fight my siblings for the paper every weekend so I could get his spin on the latest film releases. He was the one voice in a then-blogless world that convinced me that you could care about content as well as quality in film and that it wasn't completely idiotic of me to think that the two terms were interchangeable.

When he, and Jeff Vice of course, retired? Was forced to retire? Was fired? ( I never knew which) ---in the middle of the great desecration of print newspapers, teenage me went to my mother and told her that she might as well cancel her subscription and that the paper was worthless. AND SHE DID! That, on top of the loss of Ann Cannon and that funny guy who wrote about toothbrushes and Osama Bin Laden, was the last straw.

So that was my long way of telling you that I am absolutely biased in regards to this book. And don't trust my opinion. Read it for yourself to discover that Disney produced and distributed Splash!(Disney fans... your opinion?) Read it to get a list of movies you may have missed. And read it to discover that the MPAA and CARA are incredibly hard to pin down and that it really is all about money. And read it for solid thoughts on violence and it's potential effects on the viewers and a lovely little lecture on the use of expletives in films. And read it to enjoy a soul who loves clean, wholesome, quality films with all his heart... and isn't quite immune to the complexities of rating them.

And yes. I think the title is a bit overboard. But the book is better than that.
