jakeyjake's review against another edition

A good collection. Covers an array of topics. I liked most the stories that dealt with the aspirations and hopes of Taiwanese women characters.

My favorite story was Marula Liu's 'Baby, My Dear'. It starts "I want to have a baby. You'll get over it. That's how a bunch of childless girlfriends past the ripe old age of forty put it to me." The narrator's voice is strong ("I complained about this to my BFF Mori, who could divine the appearance of a man's member just by gazing at his mug.") and the story is full of imagery and one-line gems ("Truth be told, I'm just feigning ignorance. I know all too well whether love is present. All becomes clear at the moment of parting.")

Other stories I especially enjoyed:
Lin Tai Man's 'The Party Girl'
Zhong Wenyin's 'The Travels and Lover of a Junior High Girl'
Yuan Qiong Qiong's 'A Place of One's Own'
