Hazel Perry is a MMA fighter who is known as The Lioness. She is tough and fierce and is very guarded after a difficult past. She doesn't have "friends" but when she meets Knox Carr through fellow fighter Rayna she knows her life is about to change.

As Hazel tries to find a balance between her work and personal lives she must also deal with her coach, Bernie Gutierrez and her overly protective bodyguard, Jason Fremont. Can Hazel find space in her life for Knox and when everything falls apart will he be there to help pick up the pieces?

This was the first time I have read this author and it definitely will not be the last. I loved that the book centered around such a tough female and one that competed in a traditional male dominated sport. We definitely need more books with characters like Hazel.

Yet inside of Hazel she had weaknesses due to her past and she at times struggled to see her own self worth because of it. I loved her relationship with Bernie and how he brought out the best in her and valued her.

The sexual tension between Hazel and Knox was through the roof and there was so much passion between them. They were so good together yet Hazel was afraid to bring him into her life due to everything she had gone through. Knox was so caring and such an awesome character that would drop everything to be with her.

I wasn't surprised with the twist but wasn't disappointed in it either. I thought it was done extremely well and I didn't want to put the book down!

Such a great story and I look forward to more from this author!

Soo good!

First book I read from Dee and I loved it! Don’t want to go into to much details without given away any spoilers but the chemistry between the hero and heroine is off the charts!

I loved that hazel is this badasss, can handle her business strong woman! We need more in the fiction world! Can’t wait for the next one.

Getting into this book was a little slow for me, mostly because I am really not into fighting all that much. But just like Hazel I was pulled in by Knox's eyes (or at least the description of them). The connection between these 2 was so intense that I could feel it!
Hazel doesn't let too many people get close to her. She has dealt with a lot of loss and tries to avoid making connections as much as possible. Then came Knox. He pulled her in with his charm and cockiness. Once he had her, he was not letting her push him away. Hazel feels like their connection gets too strong too fast, so Knox agrees to slow it down. Since she was traveling they texted, talked on the phone and did Face time. But when she needed him, he dropped everything to be by her side. There are some sad moments. There are some funny moments. There are absolutely some hot moments. There are some suspenseful moments. I went through all kinds of feelings while reading this book, but boredom was NOT one of them!

4.25 "Hear Me Roar" stars!!

I've read quite a few romances surrounding MMA fighters, and with I AM LIONESS, Dee Garcia has created a phenomenal one. In its own subtle way it debunked stereotypes and gender roles and shone a light on FEMALE MMA fighters. I freaking loved it!!

Hazel has suffered some huge losses in her personal life, but they helped to shape her into a fierce competitor. Afraid to suffer again, she refuses to form any real attachments or connections and keeps everyone at arms-length. Until Knox barrelled his way into her life and wouldn't keep his distance. These two connected instantly and their chemistry was off-the-charts. I loved how steady and true Knox was and how that allowed Hazel to be truly vulnerable with him. They were just so sweet together.

There was a suspense element added to the plot that really upped the drama and gave it a nice change of pace. This story was well-written with a plot that completely captivated me. The only thing that bugged me was the lack of a back story for Knox. The fact that he had any family, much less a sister, wasn't revealed until the end. And I wanted more information on his connection to Luis and Reyna. I'm hoping the second book, HEAR ME ROAR, continues the story of this amazing pair of characters because I don't believe their story is quite finished.
