This book, read for the first time in 4th grade back in 1994, was the book that got me hooked on American history. I'm glad I was able to find this book at the local historical society because I've been told that it's out of print now or on Amazon for a ridiculously high price. It's still a good read as an adult but it's clear who the real audience is - which is fine. Adults will find both the writing and history too simply presented to get much out of it - unless they don't have any prior knowledge of Dutchess County history and want to learn more in a quick way.

I think it would be a great book to read out loud to young children or to have kids in 4th- 6th grades read on their own as it does a good job of providing historical facts in an interesting way. Good stuff and brought back fond memories.
