This book was disturbing, dark (research content warnings), and very well written. In this book Jackson explores not only how the legal system treats Black youth, but also how little it does to further their futures for the better. Jackson did an amazing job with the story, I couldn't put it down, though I didn't love the final chapter.

Now that I think I'm finally over the initial state of shock I was in when I finished this book, I can recommend it. I finished reading this Friday at 3:28am with a mixture of insomnia and "I can't put this down" driving me. Then, at 3:28am, the only thing I could do was lie in my bed awake thinking WTF JUST HAPPENED?

This book revolves around a little Black girl (9yo) who killed a little white baby girl (3mo), allegedly. There are a few tough & some uncomfortable topics that the book touches on (mental illness, racism, failed justice system, child abuse...). However, it's also told from a 16 year old's perspective so it's not that deep (kind of). Idk but that is all I will say as I recommend going into this book blind. You'll either love or hate the end, which is normal for me. But I loved it, which is not normal for me LOL.

It's also written by a Black author so #BlackGirlMagic

I really liked this book, right up until the last bit. I got sucked in and could not put it down. And then I got to the end. Ugh.
