Another 2.5 from me. Some problems, but an entertaining and fast read.
Kind of a let down. Katerina spent more time mooning over George than preparing herself for what had to come. I found her weak and irritating. I finished because of Danilo-He was always interesting.
The Morning Star was a good book, it just... Wasn't anything like I expected. Not in a good way, either.
Pretty strong, solid ending I suppose. I just wish that the majority of the book wasn't spent with

Katiya and George being apart. Not fun. Opposite of fun.
I loved the book, though I didn't like the time Katerina and George spent apart, but hey that's me, I like it was the romances go as planned. Theirs most definitely didn't though. The historical note at the ending kind of ruined it You can't change history. But it was a good story and I simply couldn't get the book out of my head and hands until I had finished it.
Spoiler
although I had already read on Wikipedia that George would die quite young of tuberculosis.
Yeah, I enjoyed this book, but I wish it was was longer! And this is the first book that she actually leaves Russia in the books (The kidnapping by Danilo for the ceremony doesn't count, because it was so short page wise) and the Greylands don't count! And I wish we could've gotten more ending, to know what's going to happen to them now that the threats are over, like is her mom going to get any grandchildren?

Oh, what a fantastic book! Going to be sad to say goodbye to these characters, but it ended quite well, really enjoyed it, and yeah, came to a good place!!!

1. regardless of the massive effect on her country and her own life, she never read that damn book until the very end. this drove me insane.
2. i mostly like these books, but the thing that always loses me are the action scenes, like she skips some steps? i am frequently lost, like "we have the thing, then the bad guy came and took it, then we ran" seems to be missing some amount of detail, and a lot of scenes just did not make sense.
3. i am tired of Katerina getting kidnapped and doing things she did not want to do with minimal incentive. "oops, i raised more dead and did not want to but i had to because...just because"

2.5 stars.
I remember being sorely disappointed, mostly confused, fairly pleased at the prose and atmosphere, and when my brain was not working overtime trying to figure out when the heck that plot hole had arrived to taunt me, bored. I think it had a happy ending, but I obviously did not care enough to bother filing that tidbit away.

I have enjoyed the Katerina trilogy by Robin Bridges. They tend to start off a little slow, and Morning Star was no different. It really picked up about 1/3 of the way into the book, and I started really enjoying it. It had a pretty satisfying conclusion, although it was somewhat open to another book. I am not sure since it is promoted as a trilogy. In this volume, I really liked that some of it took place in Egypt and that Katerina finally learns more about her powers as a necromancer.
