I'd had some doubts about Wonder Woman's role in this, but this was a pretty good start. Both the writing and the art had horror influences, which I liked. I liked the writing just enough, Tynion knows how to write a team book. It felt very much like a set up issue but there were enough great character interactions to keep me entertained. But the true star of the issue was the art, it was absolutely spectacular. Really liked the new Zatanna design and there were some pretty fucked up body horror that I didn't expect in a JL book. Will definitely continue reading this.

This is a great start to a new series. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this one, but I have to admit I’m finding it all very interesting.
Here we have Diana desperately trying to assemble a team to help her discover what’s wrong with magic, and try to resolve it. The problem is that Diana isn’t exactly an expert on magic…and understandably nobody with magic wants to follow her lead. Still, the woman is stubborn and I’ve got to give her credit for that.
Swamp Thing, Constantine, Zantana, Man-Bat, and Bobo all make appearances in this issue, along with many other DC magic users. I’m going to pretend I didn’t find some of the points amusing (like Diana legitimately not understanding why people don’t want her to lead the team, or poke her head in magical affairs), but there’s an underlying intensity that I can’t ignore. I can’t wait to see where this all leads.

Unusually, a #1 that I enjoyed. There is a part of me unsure whether I will enjoy the series in the longer term, though. But that just means that I'm stretching out of my comfort zone a little with this title, and will see what happens…
