I was delighted with this reverse Cinderella retelling. Not only is the writing amazing as usual, but getting two happy stories in one delighted me and made me love this story even more.
Wowwww it's been so long since I've read this. But I'll just say it is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL ending to the series and I definitely almost cried AGHHH. <3
Content: Mild suspense and danger. Religion/Christianity is deeply ingrained in the story. No sexual content or profanity of any kind.

Things I loved about this book:
The setting.
The constancy of the main characters.
I liked everyone I was supposed to like and disliked everyone I was supposed to dislike.
The way the author used the German language.
Positive family relationships as well as negative ones.
Things I did not love about this book:
I'm religious, but I feel like this story borders on preachy.
The dialogue is choppy and you don't often get the feels from it that I wish you did.(You meaning me, of course.)
It reads like a rough draft.
I can't tell you how much I wanted to love this book. And I don't have any real complaints, I guess. But a story that could have evoked some really strong feels failed to do so because the way it reads prevented it.

In this reverse Cinderella fairy tale, complete with step-sisters and a wicked stepfather, I thought it created a realistic view of abuse without being graphic for teen readers. The life that faced young women, being bandied about as objects in marriage, made this book a happy one when her parents were encouraging her that she did not have to marry if she did not love the man.
I loved and savored each chapter as I read, hoping that it would last forever, but alas, it did not. I will be looking forward to other books by Ms Dickerson in the future, but if you have not read her books, start at the beginning of the series and enjoy!

Another excellent fairy tale
I have loved all of the fairy tale series and this is a wonderful conclusion to the series. Melanie writes wonderful stories that suck you into the family and story never wanting to leave.

I am definitely sorry to reach the end of this series - but happy that Dickerson ended this particular installment with a couple of my favorite romantic tropes. This isn't my favorite of this collection, but it's what we've come to expect from Dickerson: a doomed romance full of trials, held together through faith. She definitely has an adept hand with fairy tale retellings with a fresh perspective.
Underwhelming.
I was disappointed in how underwhelming the book was. It had so much potential but I felt the story line was weak and uneventful. Plus the love story was unrealistic and shallow. But I did like the characters and the ending was ok. An easy read

A fairy tale reimagined! This book is full of cliches and easy to guess twists. But that does not take away from its charm! It is easy to enjoy and fun to read. Make sure you read the other books in the series first!
