⚠️ CW: war, death, sexual assault and mentions of rape ⚠️ Wow what an end to an absolutely incredible trilogy! This book continues to follow Karou who is intent on steering her and the rebellion away from dead-end vengeance in the hopes of a better future for all and their war-ravaged world. However, when Jael's brutal Seraph army trespass into the human world the unthinkable becomes essential and Karou and Akiva must rally their enemy armies against the threat. It may be a twisted version of their long-ago dream but they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people, and perhaps for themselves to also find a new way of living and maybe even loving. But there are bigger threats than Jael in the offing; A vicious queen is hunting Akiva and in the skies of Eretz something terrifying is happening that fills their world with a deep sense of dread. This series hasn't stopped leaving me speechless after every single book! I generally find with trilogies that there is always one book that is lacking in some way but again Laini Taylor has absolutely smashed it. There is so much I could rave about this book and this entire series but its so hard without giving spoilers. Overall, I don't know how there isn't more hype surrounding this trilogy because I've adored every last page and the beautiful writing of Laini Taylor. And I know I've said it before with the last two book reviews but if you are into epic mythical fantasies then you need to read this series!

I started this trilogy a LONG time ago and I was so excited to finally get around to the third, and final, book. I won't give a ton of details here since this is a final book in a series. I've really enjoyed this series and this one was no different. The story is exciting and kept me hooked throughout. I was happy with the ending and felt very satisfied with where we ended up.

This book counts for Popsugar 2022 for a different book by an author you read in 2021 and for r/Fantasy Bingo 2022 for revolutions and rebellions.

i fucking love this series so much. i'd love to give a more detailed review but i listened to the audiobook and didn't make a single note. i stand by what i said initially - this book had me gripped in suspense.
i guess my only note is that the audiobook narrator changed how they pronounced some things over the course of the series, sometimes flopping back and forth (i noticed it most with liraz, as the emphasis switched between syllables quite a bit).
okay but i just googled the characters names to see how to spell liraz and honestly i get it now. the spellings are wild compared to how they sound lmfao.

i was scared starting this book because i wanted so badly to love it, and it took a while, but after about 250 pages, i finally found that magical feeling of being lost in this amazing world. akiva and karou have one of the best relationships i’ve ever read and the relationships in this book were the main thing that kept me interested.

OKAY BUT COME ON HOW IS THIS SO GOOD

(I have minor squabbles re: the ending because I feel like it left a couple of things open ended and I mean it’s fine for them to be open ended because you basically know what’s happening but also I wanted more?? And yeah I know the book was already 600+ pages but I would have read 100 more and that’s the truth)

ALSO LIRAZ’S CHARACTER ARC IS UNPARALLED GENIUS
