Once again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Martina Cole has always had a way with writing she is one of the best crime writers about!

Glad to read another DCI Kate Burrows book and enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend reading the entire series first, as it is at the top of my list for best crime series I’ve read.

2.5. I'm conflicted as there was a lot wrong with the novel yet I found it very engaging and liked it. Its the best novel the authors written in a while which isn't saying much since this book weren't that great but is better then the previous shit.

Likes: Kate not taking any shit and dishing it out to those who deserve it.
Engaging quick read
New family sideplot was both interesting and endearing.
Patrick and Kate as a couple.

Dislikes:
The situation with the daughter in law I was expecting more of it
Spoiler the woman is so unhinged that she talks about hurting her children to spite her husband but then she regrets throwing acid in the mistresses face she has a turnaround and just gives herself up? It just didn't fit with her previous thoughts.

I like Kate but what I hate is when a author talks up the star of the show to the nines, yeah she's a legend, I know already, give it a break.
The killer is basically laid out from the start with zero other viable suspects.
Repetitive. The same things were said, over and over.
Such a rushed ending.
Constant 2/3 page lengths of chapters were a little ridiculous.
The talk about faces and old timers and its not like this anymore, miss the old school method, its all the new generation and social medias fault was drummed over and over.
Spoiler and the murderer is killing basically for this reason which is like the author is trying to send a message that this new way of living is wrong but like you can't go back, you have to move forward with the times and you cannot victim blame for those who are.

The main detectives were the most judgemental people ever. They would have literally judged a window for being too transparent. 60% of this book is about this new family no one cares about and you can guess who the murderer is in the first 100 pages.

Dialogue could have been improved. Author would benefit from showing rather than telling - all rather one dimensional.
