A crazy end to a crazy season. (FYI sex scenes!) Super excited Angel and Spike are back and I am pretty interested to read more seasons. I didn't like Willow's storyline in season 8 and Giles was essentially benched for the season, which I don't get. I basically got to know Buffy and Xander better, but everyone else (except Andrew surprisingly, whom I really enjoyed following) was pretty peripheral. However, I loved how the artist absolutely nailed the likeliness of some of the actors (like Spike, ha) and never even close captured others (like Riley, ha).

I'm totally into this volume based on Spike.

Spike, Spike, Spike.

Spike, s'more.

Spike and his alien bug crew in their weird copper ball spaceship (okay, I guess I need to read Spike: After the Fall so I know what that's about).

SpoilerOh yeah, Buffy and Angel have sex so much they create a universe. LIKE YA DO.

The main reason I avoided Season 8 altogether was because I knew that
Spoiler Giles died
and honestly I'm still not okay with it. It happens in this volume, so brace yourself for a wah-fest. With that in mind though, there's no going back for the main forever-and-always couple. At least, there definitely shouldn't be.

I thought this was the best volume of season 8. Definitely better than volume 3 - Harmony doesn't appear. I've read some other reviews criticizing the decision to throw in every character who ever made an appearance in the show into this "season," and I think they're right. Several didn't need to show up at all - I'm still.not sure what the point of Riley and his wife showing up in this volume was. Some of the slayers.could have served the purpose just as well. It was a bit odd that all of a sudden, the slayers are taking a massive backseat, all but disappearing from the story. Even if a ton of them died and their shrinking numbers was kind of a plot point, it still didn't make much sense that they suddenly weren't around any more. But meh, Buffy never really made a ton of sense plot-wise, and it never really had to, as long as there was some Big Bad each season with a loosely held arc. This volume felt a little like that.

3.5 stars. While it was better than volume 3, I was still a bit confused. Adding some of the ol' boys in the mix was refreshing though. If memory serves me right, I liked the Angel and Faith series better...

An ending that wasn't as satisfying as I would have wanted, but with certain aspects that I loved (Buffy's character evolution is, as always, fascinating).

I like where the story ends and what it means for the future. I'm not sure if I'll try season 9. It's hard to find these for cheap and they read very quickly.
