I listened to the audiobook. I admire the reader’s devotion to his craft, but the long sections of dialog with a character who had experienced trauma to his vocal chords was like nails on the chalkboard for me. Story was good, overall really liked it, but just that warning for anyone listening to the audio.

Good story. Lawden Cross, bad dude, killed the cop. Others that stole the money were all killed by Bosch. Four Kings

I love these books. This is the first one, I believe, that is told in first person, which takes some getting used to after 8 previous books where Harry's at a distance. Bosch is on his own now, having walked away from LAPD. He's still haunted by a particular cold case and, in investigating it, gets tangled up in some heavy terrorism/FBI stuff. We also learn something juicy about his personal life in this one. He's a great character and this series just gets better and better.

I can't get enough of these Harry Bosch books. This one got an extra star because Bosch does some research at the public library and it's just so, so great. The author perfectly nails what librarians say to patrons who ask them to do their internet searches for them. Which means that either Connelly asked a librarian or he totally did something like this and just wrote down what the librarian said. I love realistic depictions of libraries in fiction.
The mystery was harder for me to figure out than some of the previous titles, and for those who've been following the series there's a nice big reveal at the end.

4.5 Stars. What a slam dunk. The First person POV worked for me, the story with twists and turns, the mental swisshing and the narrative snottiness all made for a highly readable and enjoyable novel. This could be the best of the bunch, easily is so far.

Harry Bosh series rocks! (does he every sleep)? Even though I have read his newer works, missed a few in the series so catching up. Finally the disclosure of his daughter...always wondered when this would occur!

Again, Harry is haunted by a vision of a young woman lying crumpled in death, her hand outstretched in silent supplication. Harry was taken off the Angella Benton murder case when the production assistant's death was linked with the violent theft of two million dollars from a movie set. Both files were never closed. Now retired from the L.A.P.D., Bosch is determined to find justice for Angella. Without a badge to open doors and strike fear into the guilty, he's on his own. And even in the face of an opponent more powerful and ruthless than any he's ever encountered, Bosch is not backing down
