I ripped through this pretty quickly. It was definitely a page turner and an easy read. The story was enjoyable, I just feel like Mercedes Lackey's actual writing could be better. But she does come up with good plots.

This one feels a little less...something...than the others. Probably because, while we're eventually trying to make plans to take down the evil magi, we're just wondering around, exploring, waiting... Things happen that are interesting, and I still love these characters, but it felt long at times. But I still really enjoyed it.

Though the beginning was a little slow, it picked up nicely about a fifth of a way through the book. I went from "meh, I'm not sure this series is worth finishing" to suddenly reading hundreds of pages in a single evening.
I appreciated all the focus on dragon care (which I know some readers found tedious, but I like that sort of thing). All the strategizing and skulking around under the cover of night were also very entertaining to read about. Though the conclusion felt a little rushed and simplistic, it was still very satisfying to read. Altogether, this was a fun, rollicking adventure that did a great job of supplying me with both ancient Egypt lore and dragons.
