It's time for new beginnings for Addison Lake Her husband has died and she needs to break from the sadness that surrounds her old life and the big city. She heads to a sleepy seaside town intent on reconnecting with her cousins, starting a B&B, and delving back into her childhood days of summers at the water.

While most of Addison's transition goes smoothly, her cousins are beset with woe. Layla (aka the likeable cousin) has to contend with her art gallery/home burning to the ground and Jenna (aka the trouble-making cousin) is found dead amongst the ashes. When Addison fears that the crimes will be pinned on Layla, she starts her own investigation to the chagrin of the detective in charge of the case.

Addison is a sympathetic character - as a reader, you feel her loss and her hopes at refreshing her circumstances. Her daughter's anticipation of starting university is also palpable and contagious. I was not as invested in the cousins, though, which was unfortunate. Nor did I fully value the resolution of the mystery which seems a little hurried and implausible. I do have hopes for this series, despite all that I dislike, there is far more to savour.

Getaway Bay in Queensland was supposed to be where Addison Lake and her daughter Olivia would have a fresh start. Addison had fond childhood memories of Getaway Bay and after her husband passed away, Addison knew it was time to leave Sydney. Addison had purchased a run-down beach house, she had plans of renovating it and turning it into a B&B.

Addison’s cousin, Layla, owned the art gallery in the area and was eager to help set them up. Layla remembers when she and Addison were children on vacation in Getaway Bay, a time that was filled with lots of fun and laughter and now they were together again. Having her family close by was comforting to Addison and she knew that she still had someone to turn to if she needed help.

Layla was devastated and so upset when she found out that her art gallery had burned down, but when she learns there has been a body found in the rubble Layla is shocked and horrified to say the least. While Layla tries to come to terms with losing her precious gallery she learns that the fire has now turned into a murder investigation. Addison quickly realizes that her cousin’s life is about to be shattered, but can she do anything to help her avoid being charged with murder.

Arson at the Art Gallery is the first book in the cozy mystery series Getaway Bay and I absolutely adored it. An easy and pleasant reading with suspense and a twisted storyline that you will not see coming all of which makes a great cozy mystery. Highly recommended.

I love a good quick, cozy mystery read. This one was perfect. Read in one afternoon. I received this book free from FreeBooksy.

Addison Lake is a widowed mom who decides to move to the small town of Getaway Bay in Queensland, Australia after the death of her husband. She buys an old Victorian home with intentions of renovating it in to a bed and breakfast. Her daughter, Olivia is set to go to university and Addison is craving company. Her cousin Layla lives in Getaway Bay, as does her sister Jenna. She owns a local art gallery and in her free time she takes care of her father who has Alzheimer's. While out one evening with Addison, her art gallery burns to the ground with her sister inside. The police immediately suspect her however Addison knows she is innocent. Can Addison figure out who murdered Jenna and burned down the art gallery before her cousin is arrested for it?

This is the first story in a series by Grace York. I really liked it. The characters are well thought out, the setting is perfect and the pacing of the story is on point. A twist ending makes this a really great read. Highly recommend and looking forward to continuing the series.

Addison and Olivia were looking for a new start in a new town near cousin Layla when all hell broke loose. Unfortunately Layla was the prime suspect for a while even though she's the one that lost the most. Eventually Detective Wilcox came to his senses with the help of Addison's meddling. Jenna was a real piece of work with her game playing. I loved how the town tried to look after Charlie and really missed him when he disappeared.

'I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.'

Fun & light & I couldn't even guess the culprit! Great single-sitting-mystery-read. Would've been perfect if I were also at the beach to read this but life...
